Carbo e-Therm, electrically heated coatings based on CNTs

FutureCarbon

Carbo e-Therm is a high-efficiency, electrically heated coating that consists of an aqueous dispersion on an acrylate base with special carbon nanomaterials. Our unique dispersion capabilities and the excellent properties of our carbon additives combine to produce extremely high figures of electric conductance (surface resistance down to 20 O/❏).

So a non-hazardous low voltage can be applied to heated polymer coatings manufactured with Carbo e-Therm even at high heating power. That opens up a wide selection of very different applications for Carbo e-Therm. These innovative coatings can be used in the automotive industry, in building industry and the production of special-purpose machinery.

With its low electric resistance Carbo e-Therm is an optimal solution for onboard automotive networks operating on 12 to 24 V. So the coating can also be used in heating systems for outside rearview mirrors, seats or steering wheels.

In electric vehicles Carbo e-Therm can fully replace conventional systems fed by engine heat.

Coatings produced with Carbo e-Therm exhibit very high mechanical ruggedness – good permanent elasticity for example – and are characterized by excellent resistance to water and alkalis. They dry and can then be painted after 15 to 30 minutes. One liter of Carbo e-Therm suffices for up to 4 sqm. It can be applied manually and mechanically, by brush, squeegee or by rolling it on.

Seeing as Carbo e-Therm can be applied to surfaces of any shape, just like a conventional varnishing system, there are virtually no geometric restrictions when it comes to the bodies to be heated.

Heated coatings produced with Carbo e-Therm are very much more cost-attractive than conventional heating elements because the effort involved in any necessary adaptations can be reduced, especially in the case of complex surfaces.

A Carbo e-Therm coating can spread homogeneously over the entire surface of the surface to be heated. So, compared to conventional resistance heating, Carbo e-Therm results in no local overheating because the coating ensures fully uniform heat per unit surface.

Carbo e-Therm is obtainable for two temperature ranges: Carbo e-Therm LT for a lower temperature range up to about 100°C (acrylic based), and Carbo e-Therm HT up to 250°C (acrylic, silicone or PVDF based).
